Each Gathering Markit is located within a church and run by volunteers.
Local restaurants and food suppliers donate surplus food items to avoid waste.
The rescued food is turned into ready-to-make meal kits and sold at an affordable cost.
This offers members the choice and convenience to shop with dignity.
Not Everyone Needs A Hand-Out
Sometimes all someone needs is a temporary solution to get back on their feet after an unexpected crisis. But without the right support options, people slip through the system.
We're working to deliver practical solutions.
The Gathering Markit is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing families with access to affordable and healthy food in Abbotsford. We partner with organizations, businesses, charities, and individuals across BC to help support us on our mission and create a bigger impact in our local community.
Sadly, Food Insecurity Isn't Always Visible
Which is scary. Especially for established, wealthy communities in Canada. Because when individuals struggle to access affordable food, silently and alone, it affects us all.
We're fighting to change that.
A Hand-Up Can Do So Much More
We've seen it happen. When members no longer need The Gathering Markit, they seek opportunities to stay involved by volunteering and helping others.
We're striving to transform lives.
We partner with local social service agencies who identify those who need our support. We invite registered social service agents and health care professionals who would like to refer an Abbotsford family or individual experiencing a short term financial challenge, to reach out to us via our Referral link for additional information.
